This week on the DesignCoach: What’s wrong with white walls?

Q. What’s wrong with white walls? Everyone seems down on painted white walls. I like the clean, fresh look. I don’t have kids. I have a lot of art that I want to put on the walls. And I don’t mind maintaining the white. Did I miss a memo?

A. Nothing could be more simple while at the same time present a challenge. If white walls are what you want then white walls are what you should have. Period. End of discussion. But which white? At one time a paint manufacturer we use had more than 50 shades of white in their offerings. Some whites are better than others in specific applications. Some are warmer than others. Some are cooler than others. So yes, have white walls but take time to explore the wide range of possibilities this palette offers. The right white can make for a very memorable room.
